Rhino Charge Officials

Brian Haworth  
 

Brian was a co-founder of the Rhino Charge together with the late Rob Combes, they organised the first Rhino Charge at Suswa in 1989, which proved a success, they went on to organise several other Charges together; Brian has continued to be involved with the Rhino Charge in various capacities since its inception, and is presently a Deputy Clerk of the Course and Guard Posts Sponsors and officials Liaison.

Brian is an engineer by profession and ran his own dam construction company for many years; currently he is the Logistics Manager at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Colin E. Church  

A career in Journalism and Public Relations now in a second life as Chairman of the Management Committee which runs the charity Rhino Ark.
An early days Rhino Charger and an even earlier days volunteer to assist Rhino Ark founder Ken Kuhle and start up team with Rhino Ark and Rhino Charge awareness campaigns.
Suffered two broken ribs in the 1997 Rhino Charge down in the wild Suguta Valley, and collected many scratches and body scrapes behaving like a latter day marathon runner for Trustee Jonny Havelock's Car 32.

Philip Hechle  
  Philip is one of the founding members of the Rhino Charge Committee, and is responsible for the Rhino Charge event headquarters.
As the anchor man at Rhino Charge headquarters, Philip holds the entire- and vital - radio communications of this event in his hands. His commentary is as good as the best sports commentators in the business. He makes you laugh, shake your fists in anger or frustration and is quick as a flash when a problem occurs. He keeps the management committee and huge retinue of volunteer helpers on their toes always with gentle good humour, perfect manners and firmness.
He has lived and worked in Kenya for over 50 years, and retired from full time employment in 2000.
He is a fully qualified Safari Guide.
Simon Welland  

•Proprietor of a Horticultural Supply Company
•Deputy Clerk of the Course Rhino Charge & Committee Member
•First Rhino Charge 1992 as control officer
•Now works with the Course design team developing the venue
•Part of the RC Management Team
•Worked on the team to initiate the use of GPS for distance measurement which replaced the “Terratrip” devices, and the development of the results software
•Runs Results Program for the Rhino Charge competition
